Congratulations on protecting your vehicle with a Paint Shield Coating. Whilst effective at helping protect your paintwork, any form of protective coating will require care to maintain integrity. By following our manufacture recommended procedures, your vehicle will be eligible for warranty and your coating will have the best opportunity to perform through the expected lifespan.
CURING
Your Paint Shield coating will be up to 80% cured within 12 hours of application, however will not fully cure for at least a week post-application. During the first 12 hours, it is important the vehicle stays dry and is not introduced to any harsh environments. Your Professional Applicator will have further tips on this period, so reach out to them if you have any questions.

- 12 hours to 80% cured; depending on environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature
- 1-2 weeks to 100% cured, depending on environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature.
- The coating is far less likely to water etch than your clearcoat, but it can get water spots during the 0-80% curing period of 12 hours, so please keep it dry!
WASHING TIPS
- Using a pre-wash is recommended. Paint Shield Premium Shampoo in a snow foam cannon works extremely well at lifting a large proportion of the dirt on the surface of your coating, making the follow-up wash phase much less likely to introduce swirls.
- Avoid washing in direct sunlight (this reduces the likelihood of waterspots).
- Always use a pH Neutral car wash shampoo such as Paint Shield Premium or Hydro Shampoo in cold water (follow the dilution instructions on the product).
- Reduce surface friction by using high quality microfibre wash mitts free of debris, using very little pressure. It is safest to wash an area twice gently than once with pressure.
- Work top down as heavy dirty and grime accumulates on the lower panels, rinse your wash mitt regularly to ensure dirt and grime is not being put back onto the paintwork. Using a two-bucket system with grit guards is recommended, as this reduces the likelihood of dirt being reintroduced to the paintwork.
DRYING TIPS
Once the vehicle is dry, you can top up any low points in your coating with Paint Shield Graphene Spray Coat, Paint Shield Crystal Spray Coat or PPF Maintain depending on your coating and surface. These processes do not need to happen at each wash phase (read the instructions on the label or our product pages).
A soft hand wash is the recommended method of cleaning your vehicle. Automatic car washes (including touch-free), DIY brush washes or car wash cafes can cause damage to the coating due to abrasion or harsh chemicals.
- Avoid letting tap water dry on the surface, as this may cause water spotting.
- Due to the hydrophobic nature of your freshly-applied Paint Shield Coating, you can use tap water directly from the hose to collect the majority of water to run off your vehicle. This is effective at removing much of the standing water on your vehicle, and reducing the likelihood of introducing swirls with a drying towel.
- Always use a dedicated drying towel free of debris, or an air dryer to remove the water that remains.
- Avoid using leather chamois as these cling to the surface of the coating, dragging any remaining contaminants across the paintwork with pressure.
